If you’ve read our post on the DSLR debate, you know that the 8 reasons to buy a DSLR blow the 8 reasons not to buy a DSLR out of the water. It’s no longer a question of if, but when. Here at OTM Productions we are partial to the Canon 5D as our instrument of choice, and we’ve come across 2 phenomenal, must have additions for the DSLR videographer who’s utilizing this beautiful tool.
First, a compnay by the name of Magic Lantern, has developed a firmware update for several Canon renditions that add some must have features including:

Second is this gem of an idea from Okii Systems. They’ve developed a USB follow focus that allows for camera free control of focus, zoom, start/stop recording, and several other features, all while filming. It’s really quite amazing. Take a look.
We haven’t had the chance to try either of these personally, so please be our test subjects, er, uh, friends, and let us know your thoughts. If they function as depicted, they stand to vastly improve the video world of DSLR.
