Everything requires sacrifice. By choosing one thing you are sacrificing every other possibility. This week OTM Productions moved out of my house into a workspace at The Leftbank Project in Portland. It’s a pretty sweet place we are enjoying thus far. It’s hip and cool and eco-friendly and there’s wood everywhere. There’s a coffee shop in the lobby and an unused office space in the basement called “The Bomb Shelter.” Fortunately we are also hip and cool and eco-friendly. Green is in the top 5 for favorite colors. Also this move makes us look really legit. Of course, we are legit but everyone struggles with feeling inadequate at times.
But I’ll miss waking up whenever I wanted. I’ll miss that my commute was down the hall from my bedroom into my home office. I’ll miss the ease of a delicious cup of coffee made from my own trusted hand and the commotion from my kids downstairs. I’ll miss them coming in and asking for random things (coloring pages of “a television”) and handing out random gifts (calculators made from clay).
But moving positions us for growth and a good business should always be looking for strategic growth. We’re confident that this will be the case for us. Look for big things from us in 2011. Video of the people, by the people and for the people.
